I am a former spoken word artist and award-winning author. My first book of poetry, Butterfly Kisses: Poetry for the Many Faces of Love, was a critical success and garnered me an honorable mention in the SBBC Self Published Author Awards for Poetry Book of the Year. My debut novel, Slow Burn, won the 2008 Shades of Romance Magazine Reader’s Choice Awards in the following categories: Best Multi-Cultural Fiction Book, Best Multi-Cultural Fiction Author, and Best New Multi-Cultural Fiction Author.
Somewhere along the way, I lost my passion for poetry, and with it, a severe writer’s block descended over me, rendering me without faith and without the promised sequel to my award-winning novel.
After battling a crippling depression, I tried and failed several times to complete any writing worth reading. I did however, manage to post to Facebook every single day. After 10 years of starts and stops, I decided to start writing a blog about my everyday life. Sometimes, truth is more entertaining than fiction, and my truths seemed to touch my friends in a way I neither imagined nor intended.
It’s been 10 years since I wrote Slow Burn and won all those awards. It’s been 7 years since I performed my poetry in front of an audience. No one knows who I am anymore. The only way to change that is to take a chance and put myself back out there. I’m going to take it one word at a time…I hope you’ll read.
